Last night was the opening reception for La Jolla Digital 2006, which was very well attended, festive and all those things you hope for in a gallery opening — though the buffet table was sadly lacking anything containing chocolate.
This was my first chance to drop by the gallery to see all of the art on display and I was very impressed at the quality of digital art that had been selected by the jurors. Equally impressive was the presentation and layout of the show, which had been hung “salon style,” but in such a way that placed the emphasis on the artwork as individual pieces. Not an easy task for a group show that included dozens of pieces of art! Kudos to Scott Graham of the La Jolla Art Association for organizing and curating such a successful event!
In attendance at the reception were the jurors, Brenda Regier and Gene Nocon, each talented international artists who selected all the pieces for the exhibit. Both gave inspiring lectures about digital art and photography and discussed some of the criteria they used in judging the show. Next came the awards and my piece, Kathy is home schooled when mother discovers questionable coursework in her book bag, received recognition as one of several “Honorable Merit” winners! Not a cash prize or placement winner, but… Yay! My first award for photography!
If you get a chance, drop by the Village Gallery on Ivanhoe in La Jolla to see the show in person!
